Tips To Adjust Makeup & Skincare For Summer Weather
New York just had it's first 90 degree day and my makeup wasn't ready for it! I had done my usual skincare and makeup routine but the intense warmth had it melting in no time. My oily skin and large pores needed more than blotting, I had to remove my makeup and start over! And now that Memorial Day weekend is coming I have to get into summer mode.
The heat wave also reminded me to clean up my makeup brushes and tools. Bacteria can grow quickly in that kind of atmosphere and a few spritzes of sanitzer and swipes of a makeup wipe fixed that. I also dipped a few lipsticks and lip treatments into alcohol and wiped off that top layer with a tissue. I have to do that to my consultant kit stock too since a client tried a few on the back of her hand while I was distracted at an event. That drives me nuts, my kit is not a makeup counter! I keep my kit clean and scrape off lip color as needed.
Since I do the quickie brush clean regularly I only had to wash my tweezers and five brushes, a foundation, concealer, angled liner, and two eye shadow ones with shimmer all over them. I have a premix of SNAP All Purpose Natural Concentrate with cherry extract, which is a gentle soapy cleanser, and a few drops of the Disinfectant which is also very concentrated, anything more than 2 or 3 drops could discolor the brushes. The quick spritz has some baby oil added to it as a conditioner for the natural bristles.
I also mixed up a new Custom Blend Liquid Foundation for myself with some of the oil control additive and Fringe Benefits with silicones to help minimize pores. My new step in my routine for the T-zone is the No More Shine Spray that goes on prior to applying the makeup for added oil control, this is not recommended for anyone with dry or mature skin, they obviously don't need it.
Since our family does a lot of boating and camping In the warm weather I like to alternate between using the liquid and just the custom mineral powder. Unfortunately I have some Rosacea and a few broken capillaries so I must dot on some concealer then the powder or use the liquid and then the concealer for whatever shows through....and I always blend it in with a tapping motion and smooth it out with a powder brush.
This summer I will use the Eye Candy and Luxe Creme Eye Shadows more since they are easier to apply and hold color better, I was never a fan of cream shadows from unfavorable past experiences with other brands but since so many customers and colleagues rave about it, I am willing to wear it. I've used it already as a base layer to intensify a bold look but not for myself daily.
I must confess that the Gel Eyeliner isn't my favorite liner anymore, I have totally fallen for the new waterproof Luxe Precision Velvet tip liner!! Definitely have to keep more of those in stock because everytime someone tries it they love it too.
I always had trouble lining my upper lid's inner corner, and was never good with a liquid brush on liner, but with this pen it's so easy and can be fine like a true artist's 00 brush.
Lipstick is another story, I have poorly pigmented lips so I need a color on my lips to even out the shape but as gorgeous and light as the Rich Lipstick is, it just doesn't do well in my purse in the heat. This summer I will be carrying around the new Pucker Up Lip Plumper in every purse! They have great pigmentation and a nice glassy shine that isn't sticky at all. I also love the boost of volume to my lips and favor Amber and Temptress, although I think Amaretto is next to add to my collection.
As for skincare, air conditioners can dry out skin along with the extra sun exposure from outdoor fun. Sunscreen is a top priority, mine is built into my custom blend, and hydration is also another concern and that is also an additive to my formulation. The Skintelligence ph Normalizing toner is enough for me with OPC-3 Triple Serum on my trouble spots then a daily dose of Matriskin serum that has worked wonders on the fine lines under my eye socket.
So make sure you clean your makeup collection, wash brushes frequently, try new products and consider using lighter applications along with more water resistant products plus a touch of makeup finishing spray like Ten Years Younger to help it stay cool and last longer. Now off to start the holiday weekend, enjoy!
