Thinking Ahead For Summer Beauty Events & Considering Changing The Blog Template & Title Again
I have to admit that I've been in a funk these past 2 or 3 months. It's been like a case of the blues that has no single root cause, not that I don't have any worries, I certainly do. Kids are great, friends are fine and my hubby is working more hours but we're okay too. I'm just a little peeved over those hours that curb my attendance at Market America and local business networking events but it pays the bills so I must make the best of it.
The one thing that does really irk me is this effin' blog layout! Every time I visit there's that big blank spot along the entire length of the sidebar then the body copy w/ the entries starts after that. I've written in to GoDaddy but got answers like they don't see any issue. I'd write and promote it more if it were all good. Maybe I can ask a techie friend of mine to look at it? It's probably some easy fix with the coding but that's not within my realm of skills. I know how to set up profiles on social networks and do internet marketing, even Google Adwords, but not programming. That's why I majored in Art on the creative side before computer graphics came to be.
Maybe it's a case of late Spring fever or early Summer energy but many of the people online seem to be more interactive. Maybe it's just people in general because several "blasts from the past" in real life have been happening too. One guy stopped by the house that we haven't seen in at least 5 yrs and figured he moved on never to be seen again. I've also reconnected with some cool people that we've had good times with from 10-15 yrs ago before my husband's best friend died of a brain tumor at age 36. That was our first major loss of someone dear and we were all miserable for a long time, and another friend is coming to town next month.
The next couple of weeks school is wrapping up around here but I want to keep some momentum going that I have with a new effort to bring Motives into a few salons and am planning a few events as follow ups. My colleague and I just "put on our big girl panties" and went in cold to a few salons I had already sized up for potential candidates near me. To our amazement they were all receptive and inquisitive, although a few women were snotty or guarded at first but that was the staff, not the owner. The one with the most bad vibes from the staff turned out to be the hottest lead. She wants several demo days for clients! I think having folders with handouts and catalogs really gave us something to focus on and visuals to grasp.
Okay, so what's in my folder, you ask?
-one Motives catalog, usually the last edition since I save new ones for new clients
-a Motives Face Chart
-a Motives Client Record
-first two pages from the Motives press kit about Loren & the relaunch of the line
-makeover sheet with 4 models before & afters
-the new salon info sheet with profit margins for the various customizable products & pre-packaged items
-a generic handout about today's economic challenges in the beauty industry
-and a sample copy of our survey to show how we test their clientele
(with tiny labels with my info on key handouts plus my biz card in the slot of the folder)
Once they hear about our customization of product and see the packaging they want to know about the income then it's all about the "Benjamins".....how much does it cost?.....usually comes up. I am hesitant to put a set number since it can vary so much depending on their needs. Investing in the initial set up for Motives can be a big deal but frankly in a professional salon setting it will need to be a modest amount for all of the supplies, inventory and training. Anything less than $1000 and they aren't prepared for full service with Motives. Why buy just inventory if you perform makeup consultations and application for bridal or special events, they NEED the master palette set and custom blend system, besides the great money-saving kits make it very cost effective. I'm even considering having the Starter Kit or Nail Candy kit with me as I make the rounds.
I would just say it outright but with the crappy economy I'd rather have them appreciate the quality of the line first and show them how Motives can help with client retention and offer something new then talk numbers. Beauty is a visual and makeup is a touchy-feelie product, much like fashion designer merchandise, so unless someone is solely into the money-making potential, the prospective salon owner / beauty professional must discover the difference between our innovative brand amongst the dozens of established ones out there. Guess I can brag about it when I get a new beauty pro registered which will be soon enough!
That's all for now, my burst of energy at 1am is gone. I was all wound up from our cat being in the neighbor's tree at midnight so now that she's down and in the house, the kids are finally asleep and my mind is mellowing out....next is me konking out on my pillow!
