Check Out My New Meetup for Motives
After several years of being a Meetup.com user, I've finally created my own group for Motives! I belong to several Meetup groups and have gone to a few to network with local business owners so I do know that people that are truly interested will show up if you keep it interesting and interactive. I plan to cover holiday makeup for this event.
The closest beauty group worth going to is in Manhattan for makeup artists & is just not at doable times for me because getting from Long Island to the city at 6pm is crazy--I'd have to leave home at 1pm, besides the Motives Trainer for Manhattan already goes to them. The city organizer is a beauty pro and arranges for awesome meetups that give a lot of inside info and training to the makeup artists that do attend. That alone is priceless.
Out here on Long Island it's mostly the cosmetics & skincare direct sales reps doing meetups like Mary Kay or Arbonne. There are a few fashion & photography groups but I'm not into their topics or being a model and would rather be behind the lense since nature photography is a hobby of mine, see my albums on MySpace. I figured its time to stop waiting for the right beauty meetup and just make my own!!
The first planned meetup is for December 9th at the local restaurant that I recently went to for a women's social so I know its a nice spot for groups and the food is good & moderately priced because we eat their Italian food often. The atmosphere is nice too and can accomodate a decent gathering without reservations. See the sidebar link for Meetup.com & join us!

UPDATE 10:28pm:
The sky was awesome earlier tonite!! My sweetie called at the end of his workday & reminded me that the Moon was triangulating Jupiter & Venus in the West and the clouds had cleared out so we could see it. I got our girls to get their coats & shoes on and surprised them, they thought we were going for a chilly walk down the block. Now I know why I suddenly made the Meetup group, its a celestial influence, hehe.
I'm still tweaking the group's page and features. There's so much to do there but I'm having fun starting threads in the forum, created a poll and uploaded some pictures. I hope this grows and creates a nice gathering of beauty friends. I think I need to tone down some things and shorten my blabbering. The tools are really cool for organizers. I've already printed off business cards with the Meetup logo & group info, a table sign and posted announcements on Craigslist & Facebook. I linked MySpace in too but have to go back to figure out how to paste the Meetup widget into the profile page, its not showing up.
