Kung Fu Panda Movie & CafeMom, the Social Network for Moms
Today we got to see the new Kung Fu Panda movie at the IMAX theater that's right in the Cradle of Aviation museum thanks to CafeMom. Last week they sent out an admin email announcement and I had opened it right away since I was online when it arrived. Because they considered me an active member they were inviting me to RSVP quickly for up to four free tickets to see the Panda movie!! You can bet I didn't waste another second and replied.......and after 8 minutes of time lapsed, I was really hoping we'd get it.
My other concern was that the CafeMom website didn't seem to promote or mention any events like this. I clicked around and couldn't find any other meetings or gatherings from the CafeMom organizers, I thought for sure I'd at least find a section of past events but no. I'll have to look again.
Never really thought being a member of a Mom's Social Network would "get" me anything. Mom sites seem to be all about the sisterhood of mothering and its issues and triumphs with everyone's links to buy stuff from XYZ company or homemade crafts. The forums range from any range of interests and some are even for support for family's dealing with sick or challenged kids. It is nice interact with the other moms although some of them have serious issues with bickering or flaming other participants. Some even rant! I really avoid those areas who need "frienemies" like that.
Today's outing was a really nice treat for me and the girls. For us to take in a free movie and a complimentary pizza lunch complete with CafeMom branded t-shirts and a canvas bag with goodies was a nice extra touch. They even included a full size movie poster which my older daughter will surely put up since she already loves Pandas. We have been waiting for this to finally come out and thanks to CafeMom it was a really special event.
I think I'll write to them about my experience and offer some suggestions like having an opening greeting by someone to say why they did the event to begin with. I really would've loved to hear the organizers speak to the group about their mission or something.
Okay, off to our friend's pool before more storms roll in.........
